Stopped in for a cup of coffee before dinner. Nice wine selection...I bought 2 bottles along with my coffee. Nice atmosphere and friendly folks here.

This is probably my favorite place in the whole world. It's a coffee shop, wine and beer store, bakery and restaurant, and community gathering place all in one. The staff is so great, and often the girl who rings you out for your coffee and slice of freshly baked bread will sit on the piano and play and sing for everyone. The soups are delicious, the breakfast is fresh and the coffee is not at all bitter. The place is cozy and comfortable, and I literally spend all day here studying. I can't say enough great things about this place!

Love this place. Quaint, colorful. Love to sit right by the window. Great place to relax and collect your thoughts.

The other beacon in Yellow Springs other than Current Cuisine. The store was bustling with business. This is a great place to buy wines, coffee, vegan baked goods, and other yummy foods that this city girl has taken for granted. I could definitely spend alot of money here if I had the time. Great friendly staff too!

This place has the best staff in the whole entire world. Coupled with an amazing wine selection, yummy treats, and cold brewed iced coffee, this is probably my favorite place in the universe.

Great wine selection and bakery has decent French bread (better than Dorothy Lane's).

Come here regularly for breakfast on weekends. Delicious baked goods (black bottom muffin is my favorite) and limited breakfast menu (breakfast burritos are my pick) and the coffee is always excellent! Crowded some times, but it is hit and miss. People are always wonderful in Yellow Springs.

Very nice selection of import and domestic beers make this a frequent stop. In fact the beer selection is my number one rave about The Emporium. On the downside the soups have taken a nose dive in the last several years, basically since the ownership change. The other downside is that they allow locals to congregate out front, block the sidewalk, smoke heavily and generally bring down the experience several notches. Most uncool.

This emporium and cafe provides great quality coffee and wine and alcohol to the surrounding community. I love the soup that they have. It is a great place for community, homework, or just peace and quiet. I usually go here when I cannot get peace and quiet at school and when I need to get away.

It's a small, quaint cafe that has a lot to offer Yellow Springs that many places don't. Including a very nice selection of wines, liquor, fresh brewed coffee, bulk coffee and gluten free desserts. The amount of wine really impressed me with as small as the place is. Check their Facebook for Wine Tastings info. Beer selection, not great. The liquor was roped off with a sign directing you to ask for assistance. Apparently it's the only place in YS that sells it. Cafe seating is off to the side but I didn't experience this or their food. Left with a few bottles of Malbec I've never seen before. Great place for vegans and vegetarians. Check out their site for the daily "bread and muffin" schedule.

Cozy (occasionally bordering on claustrophobic, but that's just me...) spot in the heart of Yellow Springs. Such an amazing collection of coffees, spirits (lots of local/regional wines) and tempting baked goods. We found a spot to sit on a blustery Saturday morning, but have come in many times where there's just no extra room in this popular, inviting local "hot spot!!" After a visit to the winter farmer's market a few doors up the street @ the Senior Center (no coffee!!) the Mr. and I followed our noses to grab a cup of "the good stuff," and were pleasantly surprised to find a table as well. Had not been here before for anything except for a quick "to go" treat, so it was nice to relax and partake in a cup of pumpkin spice coffee (almost got Chai...), a house blend for him, and a yummy "day old" blueberry muffin to share. They also have a breakfast menu (order up front and they'll bring it to your table) and some great looking sandwiches. In a town full of "outside of the box" choices, this is one you'll enjoy (if you find a spot!!)

Great atmosphere and comfortable with the little ones. However, they dont have iced herbal teas which was a bummer and the cost of an iced coffee is $2 and is literally a shot of coffee. It is delicious but it gets marked down for price. Otherwise the wine selection is nice and it has nice events on the weekends as well

The beer selection, although small, is very conscientious. The coffee is good, consistent. Locally owned, operated, and very very yellow springs. It is a hub: for local politics, radical retireries. Often when back in my home town, even with no reason to enter, i poke my head in just to see who else may have been drug in by the towns ever present gravity. The only place to buy liquor in YS.

I was visiting friends and they suggested we go to Emporium for breakfast before I headed back home to Maryland. What a quaint little place! A wine shop in the front and a cafe in the back, it had everything you could possibly want to spend a peaceful Sunday morning......cozy seating, shelves of books, aromatic coffee, good food, free wi-fi, and customers who kept their conversations at just the right level. It was a little crowded around the front door, as you place your food order there at the front desk/register and there were a few people ahead of us. The menu wasn't extensive, but what they offered looked good. I opted for the quesadilla papas, and was not disappointed. The accompanying salsa had just the right amount of heat to liven it up,and the fresh cilantro was fantastic. One of my friends is a vegetarian, and was thrilled to learn they now offer a tofu breakfast burrito, which she said was quite good. Since I'm not a tofu fan, I'll take her word for it. Her husband is a true carnivore, and dug into his bacon & eggs with gusto, so I assume they were quite good. Only down side was that almost all of the coffee was empty.....I ended up having to mix 4 different types in order to get a whole cup. Which, while it doesn't sound appealing, actually ended up with a very tasty cup o' joe. I understand that they also have live music on Fridays and wine tastings, which sounds appealing. Too bad I was only in for the weekend, but will definitely have to check it out the next time I'm visiting.

I love this place, it's a great set up for coffee in the morning and you can also grab some wine if you plan on cooking in the evening or having guest. Their coffee is delicious and the muffins are made with love! Everyone there is super friendly and helpful. I don't get to make to yellow springs often so this was a new place fore to visit and I'm so glad I did. I would recommend it to any of my friends and family

The day old sandwiches are a $1.00 off. They are marked with an X . Wifi available even though it is not advertised. I spend some days getting computer work done while hanging out with other professionals, students, & village visitors.

Owned and run by a hip former Wittenberg professor, this place has an excellent selection of local and far-flung beer and wine that has been carefully selected due to its quality. Any purveyor of quality libations should come in and get acquainted.

Was home visiting in Dayton, and stopped by this magical place. I haven't seen such a huge selection of fair trade coffees ANYWHERE, and my husband was running around drooling for the Midwestern beer selection he misses now that we live in California. Friendly, cool staff who are very helpful with anything you need.

Driving through Yellow Springs I was looking for a place for a light meal/snack and perhaps a cup of coffee. I saw this place and decided it would be a great place to find these things. I walked in not sure how the place runs and quickly figured out it is self service, get your stuff and bring it to the counter. I had a cup of the House Blend (was very good), a bowl of potato soup (meh..), and a veggie sandwich (average). Not the lightest of lunches but it looked good, and I like to try potato soup wherever they have it. I did have some sticker shock when these three items rang up for $15.04!! I know the sandwich was $4, so was the potato soup $8-9? I sat in the cafe and ate my lunch, it does have a nice atmosphere and was a surprise to find on my drive through the "country". I'd stop again, but probably just for the coffee.

not quite what I expected, but a welcome surprise. +1 for the atmosphere. nearly typifies yellow springs. large front area, split into two sections: wine bottles for sale, and cafe. very colorful. nice art on the walls. (mostly) good music quietly playing in the background. there are lots of locals around: some college guys playing a board game behind me. a grad student preparing for her final. an older woman working on writing her book. a young couple on a date. people come in and out regularly, just for some coffee or a quick bite to eat. the serve-yourself soup looks great, but i didn't have any. -1 for detractors from the otherwise tranquil atmosphere: the two young kids playing loudly, the constant traffic in and out the front door, and the occasionally loud staff. +0 for a disproportionately gray-haired crowd on a sunday afternoon. -1 for old, serve-yourself coffee that's been sitting out all day long. +1 for good prices. +1 for free wi-fi. +0 for $5 minimum on credit card orders. +0 for no wait staff. if you're coming for the coffee, don't bother. if you're coming for privacy, don't bother. if you're coming for the atmosphere, do. if you're coming for a light, quick bite to eat, do. if you're coming for the wine selection, do. recommended for locals, but i likely won't be back. not what i was looking for today.

Being in the emporium makes me feel relaxed and at-home. There's just something about this place... They sell beer, wine, liquor and coffee. They serve breakfast and lunch. You can order fresh baked bread daily. All the food is organic and of the highest quality. The prices are fair and the service is good. The back room is an all-purpose gathering space. During the day, you can find folks engaged in conversations and debates, students tapping away on their laptops and children playing games and reading books on the couches. At night, you may be able to hear live music and experience a sampling of wines. It's a versatile and awesome place to hang anytime of day or night.

My favorite place in the Dayton area for breakfast. I love to join friends or family on the weekends here. The coffee is pretty good, the bacon is top-notch, the preserves are great, the toast is baked in house and so are the wonderful muffins. I love to start out with the weekend only chocolate, cream cheese muffin. It is the best! The homefries are homemade and crispy, and they give you a lot! This place also has a large selection of craft beers and wines. If you were allowed to drink alcohol here, it would definitely be a 5-star joint for sure. Never had lunch here, but the soups look good. Love to go camping at John Bryan State Park down the road in the fall, eat at the Underdog for breakfast, then get a pint or 2 of good beer at Peach's. Great times!

This is a great place to hang out. I don't live in Yellow Springs, but you can feel the sense of community here. The coffee is good. We enjoyed breakfast as well. Sometimes it gets a little crowded and it's hard to find a seat. I've seen several singers/bands here that were very enjoyable. The decor is exactly what a coffee house should look like. It feels like a home away from home.

Just what it says it is. The muffin was good and the coffee was average. Okay if you like this type of establishment. Little over priced for what you get. 5.00 minimum on transactions. Breakfast stops at noon.

I love Emporium Wines & the Underdog Cafe! The workers are welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and the music on Friday nights is wonderful. During the day, it's a great place to sip on a cup of coffee and read a book or play a game of checkers with a friend. Kids and adults collect in the back with toys and games, playing one of the many board/card games or reading through one of the old books provided by the Emporium/Underdog. The Emporium's wine selection is great. They have some of the best Elderberry Honey Wine I've ever tasted! They offer a decent selection of sulfate free wines and unique beers as well. They have a great selection of fair trade coffees and herbal teas that will meet the needs of even the most selective . On Friday nights, they have the village's best jazz and blues music and a pretty good deal on wine tastings too. Many gather in the area in front of the band to kick off their shoes and dance along with the music. Their sandwiches and baked goods are tasty and fresh. They usually have a decent variety of gluten free, vegan, or other selective diet needs. I've not tried their breakfast, but from what I've heard from others in the area, it's great as well. It's an all around fantastic place, right in the heart of the village.
